Organizational Dischronization: On Meaning and Meaninglessness, Sensemaking and Nonsensemaking

Abstract This paper contributes to close up studies of how members in organizations experience and act relationship what is broadly vaguely referred as institutionalized structures practices. Based on a case study about scorecards, quality control system, it illustrated that this practice works poorly, because inconsistent ideas purpose functioning. We introduce the concept organizational dischronization (OD) illuminate this. OD indicates deviation from ideal shared or synchronized meanings, existence diverging understandings lack clarification this, an organization. The challenges some core institutional theory (logics) sensemaking, suggesting use counter concepts such illogics nonsensemaking, thus opening for broader less ‘smooth’ understanding institutions sensemaking work than assumed literature.
